DEPARTMENT: Operations
POSITION TYPE/STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (hourly)
REPORTS TO: Branch Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Not a supervisory role
STARTING WAGE: $24.00 per hour.
PAY RANGE: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour based on annual escalation established on performance metrics.

Position Purpose/Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, Septic Technicians are responsible for pumping commercial septic tanks and driving to various locations to service/pump/clean portable restrooms and holding tanks.

Shift/Hours:
Monday – Friday; Weekends as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Service commercial or residential septic tanks.
  • Conduct regular inspections of septic system to ensure proper functioning and compliance with regulations.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift and post-shift vehicle inspection and report deficiencies to shop immediately.
  • Report improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions to the Operations Manager.
  • Operate service trucks to and from pre-designated work sites based on daily routing information.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatch to receive additional instructions, changes to work location, etc. to ensure the highest quality of customer service.
  • Service portable restrooms, holding tanks, sinks, showers, etc. at various work sites by following the company’s servicing guidelines.
  • Restock paper products, hand sanitizer, soap, etc. in every unit serviced.
  • Clean interior and exterior of units and add chemical solution to portable restroom units.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor on status of project(s), including any delays or change requests.
  • Complete all truck logs and necessary documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Immediately report all work-related injury and/or accidents to Branch Manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a Septic Technician or similar role.
  • Understanding of commercial and residential septic system design, installation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Initiative-taker.
  • Reliable, with a high level of integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Ability to follow basic instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literate – routing and tablet information for service needs.

  • Report improper operation, faulty equipment, and unusual conditions to the Operations Supervisor/Manager.
  • Operate flatbed or fence trucks to and from pre-designated work sites based on daily routing information.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatch to receive additional instructions, changes to work location, etc.
  • Install temporary fencing at approved work site as directed.
  • Follow basic instructions from Branch Supervisor.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor on status of project(s), including any delays or change requests.
  • Complete all necessary documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain logs for vehicles used during installation.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork for work completion (including all prevailing wage jobs).
  • Ensure proper storage and maintenance of all tools used for fence installation based on company guidelines.
